Last week felt like the perfect time to recommit and get clear about what the path moving forward is for me. As of late, I have been experiencing something new in my deep meditations, where I go someplace that seems very far away…far enough that I actually have a difficult time coming back. My soul experiences an intense liberation, free of the burdens of being here on earth and being human. From this intimate and personal experience I can tell you that coming back into this body has been a challenge. I am a person who LOVES living. I am in love with my life, my boys, my family and friends, with the earth, the plants and the complexity of all my fellow brothers and sisters. Yes, life gets hard, damn hard and even with all of that I still love it. I want to be here AND there was something very enticing about being in all that freedom and fluidity. When you begin to feel wore out by life, it can be quite empowering to combat this rundown feeling by taking some time to nourish yourself and to feed your heart with some love and compassion. Take some time for yourself, no matter how much the world around you demands and develop a plan to keep yourself on track to embrace this nourishment regularly.
It definitely feels like last week was a brilliant time to embrace a new spiritual practice or update an existing one. It is extremely easy to get wrapped up in life so tightly that you aren’t sure you will ever get out. Once this feeling sets in, you become accustomed to being in this chaotic flow and after a little more time there, you might find that the chaotic flow is where you are most comfortable. This can be a dangerous space to exist in as it will inevitably lead to burn out. The best thing about all of this is the sweet taste of EMPOWERMENT!! You get to choose to stop the cycle of chaos before it swallows you up along with all of your energy. You will notice the signs of burn out are almost exactly the same for you each time it happens. Things such as inability to sleep well, eating too much, forgetting to eat, being edgy and cranky, letting go of your daily routines, etc. As your symptoms begin to rise up, take notice and make time for you immediately. Go for a walk on your lunch break, spend some extra time with the dog outback when you let them out to play, or take a bath at night before bed and put lavender on the pillow to help you sleep. There are so many ways to care for yourself, find the simple things that will support you recharging your internal batteries.
You may find you have time to take a vacation of some sort so use your time wisely when you go. In western civilization taking vacations are fewer and farther between so when people go, they plan every day so full of things to do that they come home needing a vacation from their vacation. This will not feed your soul no matter how much fun you have. Yes, your children (if you have them) want to be kept busy and have a great time, however this also teaches them is that there is no time stillness and regeneration. If you are feeling burnt out, a busy time away is not going to feed you and fill you up so take it easy and be sure to include downtime to sit on the beach and meditate or journal or to walk into the woods or desert and drink in the sounds which open your senses.
If you can get away on your own, maybe find a retreat that will nourish your heart and body. There are so many available options for someone to travel to amazing parts of the world to see and experience different cultures. You might like to do a Yoga retreat to server your body and heart, or maybe you’d like a men’s or women’s or couple’s retreat to take your practice of heart opening to the next level with yourself or your partner. Maybe you find that spending an afternoon or a full weekend at your favorite local get away is exactly what you need to fill your love tank up and refresh your mind. All of these things are ways to restart your body, mind and spirit. Once you know what you can do for yourself, choose it. Look at your schedule and add in days where you do the things which make you happy and fulfill your practice of self. Yes, sometimes these days will consist of absolutely NOTHING, and that is brilliant!!
Much love and rest to you all!
